What is the WFA Level 1 Kettlebell Certification?
Developed by WFA founder, Victor Rowse, the WFA Level 1 Kettlebell Certification is an ACE-accredited beginner level kettlebell instructor credential. Emphasizing strict technique and multiplanar movement flows, this certification is ideal for people who wish to understand how to train kettlebells other than the traditional sagittal plane sets and repetitions format.
Covering kettlebell safety, kettlebell training principles, kettlebell program design, and movements both in sagittal and frontal plane, whether you are a professional coach looking to add kettlebell training to your resume, or a fitness enthusiast looking to build a solid foundation in strength training, the WFA Level 1 Kettlebell Certification is an ideal choice for you.
Why train kettlebells?
Kettlebell training is not casual fitness – it is unfiltered, old-school strength forged through raw, integrated movement. Every swing, clean, snatch, and press forces full-body co-ordination, stable bracing, and mental toughness no machine can replicate.
The unique design of the kettlebell – a handle connected to a heavy ball, makes it an ideal choice for any level of athlete – the complete beginner just stepping into the gym for the first time or the high-level athlete seeking to improve explosive strength. By keeping the handle directly above the center of mass of the kettlebell, we can use it in a way which closely replicates the dumbbell to build a solid foundation in linear strength. Once we have this foundation, we can then seek to develop ballistic strength by using the kettlebell as a swinging tool in a way which closely replicates the clubbell and the macebell. In short, we get total body strength and conditioning all in one device.
Course Itinerary
The WFA Level 1 Kettlebell Certification is a “hands on” two-day offline course followed by four weeks of online coaching and an online test.
Two-day offline training
Four-week online coaching
After the two-day offline course is over, your four weeks of online coaching begins. This is the critical period when you need to keep practicing the movements covered in the two-day course. By sending us short videos every week of your movement practice, we will be able to mentor you in your progress and point out areas which need further work or correction.
Level 1 Test
Athletes who wish to become WFA certified kettlebell coaches will need to pass the Level 1 Practical Test which is divided into two parts as follows:
A. Technique
Participants will be required to demonstrate the following three kettlebell movements with perfect technique. Only six repetitions of each movement are required for the technique assessment.
Men 20kg kettlebell. Ladies 12kg kettlebell. No strict time limit.
Swing & Tactical Swing
Clean & Tactical Clean
Snatch & Tactical Snatch
B. Conditioning
In addition to having excellent kettlebell technique, we expect WFA Kettlebell coaches to be of a certain level of mental and physical condition. The conditioning test is designed to ensure that. Technique is still important for the conditioning test – sloppy technique will not only slow you down but could potentially lead to no reps. But the emphasis here is on being able to complete the required repetitions within the time cap.
Men 20kg kettlebell. Ladies 12kg kettlebell. 7 min 30 seconds time cap.
Alternating swing 50 repetitions.
Shield Cast 50 repetitions.
Halo 50 repetitions.
This is not an easy test. But we believe any coach who is committed enough will, in time, be able to pass.
